A member of the firm since 1983, Jan's primary interest is in trial work, with a special emphasis in medical malpractice and personal injury defense litigation. She has successfully defended cases involving catastrophic injury and allegations of wrongful death, defamation and employer intentional torts.
Admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1980 and the Ohio Bar in 1983, she was an Assistant District Attorney of Suffolk and Plymouth Counties in Massachusetts from 1979-82. A frequent speaker on trial tactics, Jan is a Master Bencher of the Judge John M. Manos Inn of Court. She is a member of the Society of Benchers of the Case Western Reserve University School of Law, the American Board of Trial Advocates and a life member and Co-Chair (April, 2006)of the Eighth District Judicial Conference. Jan is currently President of the Cleveland City Club. She is also a member of the Cleveland and Ohio State Bar Associations, the Cleveland Association of Civil Trial Attorneys, the Defense Research Institute and the Trial Lawyers Association.
Jan was named "Super Lawyer" for Insurance Defense: Personal Injury in "Ohio Super Lawyers" 2006 and 2010.
Jan also made the following presentations:
"Common Mistakes Made by Plaintiff's Attorneys," Cleveland Academy of Trial Attorneys, Bernard Friedman Litigation Institute, Cleveland, Ohio in March, 2003; she was a Presenter at the conference, "The Women Advocate" and "The Woman Lawyer in the Courtroom" which was co-sponsored by the Ohio State Bar and Ohio Women's Bar Associations in April, 2001; and, "Trial Superstar Series" presentation for the Cleveland Bar Association in October, 1999.
Born in Michigan, Jan received her B.A. from Denison University in 1976 and her J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1979.
