Emmett has been Of Counsel to the firm since 1992, concentrating in the areas of probate law, personal injury, criminal defense and insurance defense. He also serves as Special Prosecutor for the City of Coshocton, Ohio.
Emmett was an Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor from 1977 to 1987. From 1987 to 1992 Emmett represented two multi-million dollar insurance carriers as a chief trial lawyer; focusing solely on insurance defense litigation.
In addition, Emmett recently retired, at the rank of full Colonel, from the U.S. Army/Ohio National Guard after more than 35 years of service. Initially drafted in 1968, Emmett was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in 1979 in the Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG). He graduated from the Army's Military Judge's Course at the Judge Advocate General's School in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1990 and served as the Military Judge for the State of Ohio from 1989 to 2004. He received several military awards for his service in the first Gulf war (Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm) and most recently for his service in Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Enduring Freedom. He also was awarded the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.
Emmett received his B.A. from the University of Detroit in 1969 and his J.D. from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1976. In addition, he is a graduate of both the Officer's Basic and Advanced Courses of the Judge Advocate General's School Army and is also a graduate of the Army's Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
